Those who have never suffered with Acne (Zits) cannot possibly understand the stress it causes; but things are gradually improving for sufferers. A great deal of effort is going into research for a cure; gradually more effective topical treatments are being discovered and made available. The type of acne skin care product you might use would come under three general categories: TYPE="square" Internet or Drugstore:
Treatment that helps prevents condition, Over-the-counter: Treatment Prescription: Dermatologist or Doctor, Specialist Skin Cream or Ointment

General or preventative acne products form a large section of the skin care market; products like skin cleansers and toners fall into this category. This is a market where many people use this type of product every day to condition their skin; there use is not just confined to individuals who are suffer with the complaint. More specialized cleaners are designed in the same way as acne skin care products; they work by limiting the production of sebum/oil and prevent clogging of skin pores. Excess oil needs to be stopped from clogging the pores as this oil make it easier for bacteria to grow, exacerbating the condition.

Skin care treatments such as exfoliation skin peels, clean the skin and help control the spread of the condition; these can be bought easily over the counter or on the internet. Dead skin cells and other atmospheric pollutants are removed cleaning the pores which reduce the chance of any bacterial growth. There are specialized acne skin care products available over-the-counter, they do not require the need of a prescription. Most of these creams etc. are based on benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, both of which are the enemies of bacteria (and hence acne); they work by removing the excess oil from the skin and halt the growth of acne.

Dermatologists recommend any product should have low concentrations of the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide (no more than 5.5 parts per hundred) if there is an adverse reaction; if a reaction occurs, a cleaner or cream containing alpha hydroxy acid should be safe. As with any type of zit cream, you may need to try a few acne skin care products until you find one that will suit your skin; if nothing you use is effective then speak to your dermatologist for advice. If you do need to see your doctor or skin care specialist then he may give you a prescription for antibiotics or special ointments.

Your dermatologist may suggest a minor surgical procedure to remove the contents of pustules; although this is a minor procedure, if it were performed by the person themselves it could result in skin damage. Hormone treatment might be suggested as hormone changes can cause skin problems; studies show that hormone based skin care treatments often prove effective. Tackling this skin condition is not the problem it once was and if treated properly permanently marked skin does not have to happen.
